Hi, I'm having the same problem as this poster in 2009:
http://forum.redlers.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1899
Unfortunately, no one answered it. Does Mellel not have widow/orphan control for footnotes?
I would like to avoid orphans and widows in footnotes by checking the "Keep lines together" option and choosing "At start/end of paragraph" and the value "2" for "Lines at start/lines at end".
However, this does not seem to work. Mellel nevertheless allows line breaks after/before the first/last line of a footnote paragraph.
This seems to be a specific footnote problem, because in all other paragraph styles I checked this option orphans/widows were actually avoided.
Any ideas?

Re: Orphans/widows in footnotes Revisited
The keep options of the paragraph style do not apply to footnotes/endnotes. There is a rather basic control for keeping paragraphs together (or not) in the note stream settings (Open Insert->Note->Edit note attributes).

Re: Orphans/widows in footnotes Revisited
Eyal, I think the idea is that some would like more advanced controls for preventing orphans and widows in footnotes. This would be great even on a case-by-case basis; right now the only way to prevent orphans/widows is to prevent footnotes from splitting entirely, or to split at the paragraph level (which in many cases invalidates the aesthetic reasons for splitting footnotes in the first place).
Re: Orphans/widows in footnotes Revisited
May I revive this old post. I have a manuscript with hundreds of footnotes, many of them being lengthy. This creates (as expected) numerous orphans for which there seems to be no other way to deal with than denying any cross-page footnote. But this is even worse. Wouldn't there be any possibility to add at least an option preventing one-line orphans?

I've used Mellel since 2003. It's my favorite word processor, and still a joy to use.
