Mellel won't work at all after latest update

Hello,

unfortunately, I am encountering a new problem with the yesterday newly downloaded version of Mellel 3.1.3. While I could work with Mellel just fine yesterday, today I cannot open it either via clicking on the application icon, nor by opening a Mellel file. Either way, I get a Mac Os window that tells me that Mellel has been unexpectedly closed. So I am now unable to open any of my many Mellel files!

Please help me - I need to open these files!

I am a bit afraid of upgrading to 3.2 until I hear that this bug has been stomped.
I found 3.0 to be most resistant to the 3.2 problem which I think has something to do with the Style Set Folder.
Any chance that progress has been made?

I am having the problem on 10.7 as well.
However, this is my own fault. I keep the Mellel Library folder synchronized so that when I change a style on one computer it appears on the other ones. This has worked well for many years. However, the downside is that now all of my computers have toxic style sets on them.

Well, style sets collections are not really necessary. You can always get them via the files, so this can be easily 're-built'...

Here I am with my trusted 2008 MacBook with Mac OS X 10.5.8. I have used Mellel for several years.

Mellel 3.2 opens my old files, but I cannot write to them or edit them in any way, except deleting passages.

And I cannot create a new blank page, either. Hoping for bug fix. In the meantime, I will revert to 3.1.3.

I haven't had this 3.2 problem YET but another user I'll refer to here as O, who doesn't have forum posting privileges, has asked me to report that he is having exactly the problems reported by Joel Naber and by Passopp. Everything seems fine on O's own computer running 10.6.x but the problems appear on his machine at work running 10.5.8. As Naber reported for 3.1.3, it ran as a substitute for 3.2 for one day and crashed the next. A 'fix' seems to be purging the mellel Application Support and Preferences files and relaunching 3.1.3. (O wasn't sure which mellel support files were implicated so he moved them all out of ~/Library.) That's not exactly a solution to the problem of course, but it may help some users to get on with their work while awaiting a real fix. And as I said at the outset of this posting, I haven't had the problem with 3.2 on my 10.7.5 machine as yet, and I can only hope that adding this reply doesn't bring me bad luck!!

A little update on the Leopard situation.
It seems that some of the last minute changes we made to 3.2 hampered compatibility with Leopard. As far we know this only effects people who use Leopard.
There are three issues we are aware of (let us know if you have an addition to this list)
1. Template browser window broken, if you have the preference to show this when opening new documents then it may block your way to open new documents
2. Typing produces beep sounds and not text in the document.
3. Style sets get corrupted and the app crashes at startup (couldn't reproduce faithfully, please let us know if you know how to make this happen)

We've already fixed the first two issues and the fix will be included in Mellel 3.2.1 to be issued in a few days.

For the time being we recommend that Leopard users revert to using Mellel 3.1.3. Here's a link: http://d1riogbqt3a9uw.cloudfront.net/mellel313b1.dmg

If after re-installing Mellel 3.1.3 the program keeps crashing, please remove the style set folder (~/Library/Application Support/Mellel/Style Sets). You will need to restore your style sets from your documents.

Same thing happened here after I went back to 3.1.3. Not the very first time I opened it, but on every subsequent attempt.

If after re-installing Mellel 3.1.3 the program keeps crashing, please remove the style set folder (~/Library/Application Support/Mellel/Style Sets).

I did so, now Mellel 3.1.3 runs well, except it cannot open in any way the one test document that I used in 3.2, which I managed to change by deleting some text.

I have a crash report for 3.1.3 which I just pasted into a PM and sent you, if that in any way can be of help.

4. addition to 2.: I can type Chinese though. Using IMKQIM input thingie and not the standard one for 10.5.8 (sorry, technological language is *not* my strongest point)

Mellel 3.2.1 is out and should resolve the Leopard issues.
