I've just recently got Mellel for my ipad and I have a few questions/requests:
1. Are there any plans to set up a separate Mellel forum for postings regarding the ipad version?
2. I notice that some of the fonts in the font list are in parentheses and I've been unable to discover what this means. Can someone please enlighten me?
3. I can't seem to work out how to input nikudot and, unless I'm missing something, I've come to the conclusion that it isn't possible. If that is true, will that feature be introduced any time soon?

Re: Mellel on ipad
To input the vowels while typing in Hebrew, your keyboard must support it not the app. If the default Hebrew keyboard for the iPad does not support nikud, there are a few third-party keyboards in the App Store that do.

Re: Mellel on ipad
Your problem 2: Fonts that are in parentheses in the list are old ones, no longer supported. If you try to write in such a font, or import a file where it has been used, it will be replaced. I have several like that, e.g. the old system-font New York. I think it has something to do with Unicode-compatibility.

I have an old iPad running iOS 8.4 and you are correct, I can't find a way to enter NIKUD on the Hebrew keyboard.Shelly Harrison wrote:I've just recently got Mellel for my ipad and I have a few questions/requests:

Under OSX, NIKUD is available using the ALT key, but iOS does not have an ALT key.
I found the following articles that appear to offer solutions [I haven't tried either one]:

Re: Mellel on ipad
Regarding an iPad specific forum:
At the moment we are not planning on adding another forum. Feel free to ask here or contact us directly (www.mellel.com/support)
Regrading fonts in parenthesis:
This is true for both iPad and Mac versions and is used to indicates that the font in question is missing from the device.
For example, say you have a document using font X on your mac, now you open your document on your iPad, since font X is not installed on your iPad, Mellel cannot display the text using that font. To solve this Mellel adds the font name to the list of fonts, with parenthesis, and uses a different font (normally, the system font) to display the text that uses that font on the device. This means that after you make changes and save the document on the iPad, opening it again on the Mac will show you the text applied with font X using font X.
Regarding entering Hebrew Vowels and Cantillation marks:
You can use Mellel for iPad keyboard strip to do this - the default configuration of the strip doesn't have Hebrew stuff but you can add it quite easily
1. Press the omega icon (Ω) on the left of the keyboard strip to show the strip
2. Tap and hold the menu button (...) on the right of the keyboard strip to show the keyboard strip menu
3. Tap "Edit"
4. Turn on the items for "Hebrew Points & Trope"
5. Click "Done"
6. Now you can cycle through the keyboard strip sets using the menu button and tap on the items in the strip to insert the character you want.
