Question about the text in text boxes

With all the discussion concerning problems with text boxes, I waited until 3.5 1b2 came available today before trying them.
So far, so good, but I have a question:
I placed text in the box and then used fill to add a background color and alpha to reduce the saturation to 50%
BUT
The saturation of the text was also reduced.
To my mind, this is inappropriate behavior -- I expect the fill color to perform in a manner similar to the image fill opacity in the page palette.
In other words, I think the color should be background only and in no way affect the text itself.
Am I wrong?
