I just upgraded to Mellel 4. I've been using Mellel since 2007.
I opened a long book I've been working on (also since 2007!) that has a lot of graphics (pieces of music or music examples). Upon opening the book, Mellel 4 threw out a message saying something like, "There were free-floating graphics that can't be shown. Would you like Mellel to show them so you can adjust them?" Sorry I didn't think to take a screenshot.
Every piece of music in the last chapter (#9) had an overlay of a piece of music from the preceding chapter (#8). Everything in chapter 8 looks fine, but how did these graphics (PDFs) end up being duplicated eight pages later on top of another graphic? I can't seem to upload an attachment, but here's a link to a screenshot of a page that I've put on droplr: http://d.pr/f/SDA87M. You can see in the screenshot that although I'm on page 200 (Carcassi's Op. 60, No. 2), Francesco da Milano's Fantasia 40—from page 192—is on top of it. And its curious that one can see elements from both pieces. The da Milano is only five lines long. I wouldn't have known how to do this had I wanted to.
This was easily fixed by deleting the superfluous graphic, but I've never had trouble like this before in Mellel. I post this in case it points to some sort of problem with v. 4.0.0b81.
Of additional interest is that the Mellel 4 > Migration Assistant also gave a message that Mellel couldn't detect a previous installation of Mellel. But how could it? Once I paid for the upgrade, Mellel 3 vanished. Mellel 4 also "forgot" all recent documents, although that seems to happen frequently with major upgrades.

I suggest that you send a beta report directly to the developers, instead of discussing it here. I don't think we who are beta testers are supposed to talk about Mellel 4 here in the forum until a ready version is released.

Re: Graphic confusion in Mellel 4?
Sorry… it's news to me that I was a beta tester. I thought I was a customer who had accepted an upgrade prompt.
