Linkable Table of Contents

Is there any way to make an (automatic) linkable table of contents? If not, how can I make a manual linkable table of contents?

i.e., linkable when it is exported as a PDF

Mellel's table of contents is not a dynamic object, so it is not linkable (if by linkable you mean that you can click on a chapter to navigate to it).

That is because the Outline is a much more useful and convenient tool for navigating the document inside Mellel.

However, when you export your document to a PDF, table of content elements are linked to the Auto-titles they point to (i.e. you can click the page number to navigate to the corresponding section).

Thanks Avner.

I actually have not found that to be true. I have made my mellel doc a PDF yet the table of contents page numbers do not link to the auto-titles, even though I can see all the bookmarks of the outline in the PDF side menu. It was only when I changed the page numbers in the table of contents manually to cross-references that they became linked in the PDF.

bpkantor, this was the case in the past but with Mellel 4.0, table of contents page numbers are clickable links in the exported PDF document.
Note two things regarding this:
1. You need to regenerate the TOC on Mellel 4.0, if you have a document that contains a TOC that was generated on Mellel 3.5 then you need to remove that TOC and insert a new again
2. As with other more advanced PDF options, you need to choose File->Export->PDF to get the options, otherwise (using print) you will not get these

Great news. Thanks! 👍

I have tried but cannot get the pdf linkable. I guess I do something wrong. I have inserted my TOC in version 4 of Mellel and then exported it as a PDF but the TOC is not linkable. When you export the pdf there are different checkboxes you can use, I have tried them but none of them seem to work. What can be the problem? Maybe something you should do in the Auto-title palette?

I tried some minutes ago and it worked like a charm. I didn't bother to check any of the checkboxes.

wow... It worked all the time. I tried to click on the chapter in the TOC and not the page number. Maybe it would be more logic if both the chapter and page number was clickable. But thanks Macsailor.

Yes!

Any way this could be added? It doesn't make sense for a user to have to mouse directly over the page number to do this. They should be able to click anywhere on the text line to navigate to the desired location in the exported PDF.
