Let's see if this time it works!!!

I am considering creating a new document, making a story line with all the sections and configurations of the old one, and them just transport everything! it will involve a lot of coping and pasting, but maybe it will work!

I just found another post with the same problem as mine!

Lucia, the problem "must be" in your definition of the auto titles. You apparently have an auto title for something I would call "Unnumbered Heading (UH)". If you open the palette for Aut-Title, it should appear in the list. Click that auto-title and then click the pencil to edit. A window will open that has tabs for Format, TOC format, Mention format, Outline format, and Ref format.

Click on the TOC format button.

Click on the box in the middle that says "Use a different format for Table of Contents'

The definition field (the rectangle with white background in the middle of the window) should have some "elements" such as "Title", "Tab", and "Page#" If the set of elements includes "Curr#", then delete it.

If this doesn't work, then looking at the Screenshots as Icelandic suggests will help someone on the forum spot your problem.

Congratulations! This time I can see screenshots no. 2 and 3. But unfortunately you took wrong screenshots. You selected "Title" instead of "Heading" and "Sub-heading" in the Title flows list.

Anyway, based on the screenshots, you should be able to achieve what you want, if you do the following:

1. Select "Heading" in the Title flows list.

2. Make sure that only a 'Title' bubble is in the Format *and* TOC field. This will prevent numbers to appear in the document where you don't want them.

3. Now select acknowledgements, list of abbreviations, introduction, conclusion and bibliography one by one and assign them the Auto-Title "Heading." They will have no numbers. That's what you wanted, isn't it?

4. Then select "Sub-heading" from the Title flows list.

5. In the edit field on the right side delete everything in there and replace it with Curr#.Tab from the Elements drop-down menu. Do this for both Format and TOC format.

6. Now select "Small heading" from the Title flows list.

7. In the edit field on the right side delete everything in there and replace it with TabPrev#1.Curr#.Tab from the Elements drop-down menu. In the Preview field below you should now see 1.1

8. Now select "Small sub-heading" from the Title flows list.

9. In the edit field on the right side delete everything in there and replace it with TabTabPrev#1.Prev#2.Curr#.Tab

10. You should now see 1.1.1 in the Preview field below

11. Now *save* the setup by clicking on the "Save setup…" button (it's at the top.) Give it a name that associates it with your work. The new name should show up in the Auto-Title *palette*. If it doesn't, then choose it from the Setup drop-down menu, which is at the bottom of the Auto-Title *palette*.

12. Close the Title flows list window, but keep the Auto-Title *palette* open

13. Now place the cursor *in front* of the first heading in the document that's supposed to have the decimal system.

14. Double click on "Sub-heading" in the Auto-Title palette.

15. ONLY the decimal number (1.) will be inserted in front of the Sub-heading's text. The following Sub-headings will have 2., 3., 4. and so forth.

16. Repeat for all Sub-headings.

17. Then place the cursor in front of the next level, which is the "Small headings" and double click on "Small heading" in the Auto-Title palette. This should insert 1.1 in front of the "Small headings."

Acknowledgements, list of abbreviations, etc. should now have no numbers, all other headings should have the decimal system, like you want.

Sorry for my late reply!

Thank you for all the insights. It worked, but I had to configured the TOC by hand!!!

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
