I seem to have inserted an image which insists on having a page all to itself—no page break in sight, but it will not flow on from the text above, and shoves the caption below it on the next page. I also have another image which sits happily enough where I put it, but also forces the caption on to the next page. Any suggestions gratefully received...

(note: working with the French localization, not sure of the exact translations)

Have you tried to right-click “Modify image” then select “Incorporated” or “Floating” (at the bottom of the window)? Also, the last option to create “a return to the line” might do the trick.
