I'm working in a document where I'd like to switch from one to two columns, then back: I have a word list of a couple hundred items, and it's a waste of space to give each word a full line on a one-column page. It seems like the way to do this is to switch sections, leaving the first section at one column, increasing to two for the following section, and then returning to a one-column section after the word list. Unfortunately, this makes a mess of my footnotes: They appear mid-page, at the end of a section, rather than at the bottom of the page. How can I fix this?

Seems Mellel users have been waiting already 12 years for this to be fixed. See the last post in this thread:

You should write to the developer and tell him that you need this to be fixed and why.
