Hi,
Stephen's converter actually works better for me than Mellel's RTF exporter, at the moment, for the purpose of converting documents to Word.
In particular, the resulting HTML properly replicates tables with non-white background colors (which the RTF exporter does not at the moment).
Moreover, because the document uses styles and CSS, it was very easy to fix--using Select All in the Styles palette--the one thing that Word does not support: superscript and subscript (I guess it does not recognize relative positioning in CSS).
The only other thing that was not included in the CSS was page/printing margins.

Although this thread is a quite old, I want to thank you, Stephen, for your script. I learned a few things from looking at it.
I started developing my own xsl (wrapped in a Droplet). My approach is different from yours. I focus on the structure of the text and a clean html code leaving the formatting of the html file to its own stylesheet.
I don't want to hitchhike your thread so I started a new one:
