applying style sets

I don't know why this isn't working so perhaps I am not understanding it.

I wrote a paper with a particular style set and now I would like to change it. Basically the only difference is the footnote paragraph styles. I choose the new style set and tell it to match styles and the footnotes aren't changing. The only way I seem to be able to change them is to manually go to each individual footnote and change its paragraph style.

Any help would be appreciated.

What method of matching did you pick (by name?). Are you sure the styles have the same names?
