There is a way to get multiple snapshot views of a document.
File->Duplicate will make a second copy of a file and open it in a separate window. For safety's sake, I save the duplicate with a name like "delete-me". Once the file is saved with a name, you can click the "lock" checkbox.
I like the lock feature because if I start to edit in the wrong window I get a message warning me the document is locked.
It's not the same as multiple, editable, views of a document, but I think duplicates could be helpful in some situations.

Re: Feature request: split view
I wanted to give this a bump. Of the features Mellel lacks this is the most significant for me yet probably one of the easiest to program. Please?

The man who does not make mistakes
usually does not make anything.
The man who does not make mistakes

Just wanted to add my voice to those who have already requested this feature. It's one I regularly wish were available.
