There is an entire section of the Mellel Guide that deals with this issue. It's on pages 38-40 on my copy [I'm not sure I have the most up-to-date version].

Or hit command>alt>control>8 when in full screen mode.
1. Indexing: next to xrefs, this is the most crucial for the writing of scholarly books.
2. Commenting/reviewing. Again, for academic work, especially since many of us have colleagues read, proof, and comment upon our work, this is important. Using flows work, but it is not the best solution. While Mellel outshines Word in almost every way, the commenting and correction in Word (and Pages) is quite good and pleasing to use.
3. Grammar-checking. Even if it just flagged such things as passive voice, adverbs, adjectives, noun-verb number disagreements, etc., this would be a wonderful speed improvement for my writing, at least. Yes, I can do it on my own, but it takes longer. And I don't need a grammar checker to teach me grammar, or suggest better options. Just show me the potential problems.
Most urgent: 1 (indexing), 27 (quicklook)
Second choice: 7/8 (footnote/endnote handling), 11 (style variations)
Third choice: 5 (including language options as part of style), 17 (starting chapter on an odd page/suppressing header at end)--I would also include with 17 having a different first page header for a section style or page style--and 19 (word integration).
One thing that wasn't mentioned for French users, which exists in Word : automatic spacinig between characters and quotes, but also "?", "!", ":" and ";".

45: Mellel integration with BibDesk;
As I've already written in here, this wouldn't be too hard to implement and is encouraged by both the Redlers and the developers of BibDesk, but someone has to do it ...
