selecting many footnotes

How do I select many footnotes at once?
For example, I have a style for footnotes relating to text that my supervisor has already seen, grey and small so he knows not to read it again (and similarly for parts of body text) and another style for new footnotes, to be read. So there will be a bunch of footnotes I want to change to old-stuff style but I seem to only be able to select one footnote at a time, very slow.
