When an author needs to make a series of short footnotes, it conserves space and looks nicer, if (s)he has the option of selecting a format for the notes that does not begin each new note on a separate line. If I'm not mistaken about the terminology, this is called a "run-in" format.
1. Text of note 1. 2. Text of note 2. 3. text of note 3.
as opposed to
1. Text of note 1.
2. Text of note 2.
3. Text of note 3.
Mellel seems not to give this option, but I find it in other good word processors. I find it a serious drawback not to have this option in writing with Mellel.

I would find the run-in format feature useful too. Critical edition typesetting would be a breeze if this feature worked!

Yes, this would be great.
