In my list over here,

I've forgotten one more feature: a baseline grid ('per' paragraph, ie. with the option whether a certain paragraph (style) should 'follow' the grid or not).
For the current book project, I tried to space all the paragraph styles in a way that most of the lines (at least the main text) are always 'on' the 'grid'. A bit tedious ...

For what it's worth I'd rather have Snow Leopard-type consolidation in 2.9, and GUI revamp and RTF roundtrip in 3.0.

a. Ability to specify "page break before" as part of a paragraph style.
b. Ability to specify "start on next left or right page" instead of simply page break for outline and other styles.

Indexing! I am sorry but Mellel, so prone to present itself as a tool for academics, is USELESS to write books without indexing! This is incredible, I have emails from Ori dating back to 2006 promising an indexing feature very soon. I have written books entirely with Mellel, and I had at the end to convert them to Word so that to index them. It is the first time I post on the list but it is now for more than 2 or 3 years that I think that the improvement path of Mellel is on a very strange track. Indexing is a core requirement, line numbering is a nicety, as were a number of recent "improvements"
