floating date/time in footer (or header)

I'd like what is essentially a timestamp in the header or footer. I.e., a variable that picks up the current date and one that picks up the time. So, when I print a draft, or PDF it for sending around, it is time stamped. In the antediluvian XyWrite days you could spec it like this: <<daMmdyy>> at <<tmhh:mm>>
