a combination of indent and outdent?

Hey y'all,

I don't really know how this is called properly called in typographic terms, hence the ambiguous title.

Anyway, what I'm looking for may be descirbed as follows:

I’d like to have\
list-like indented blocks of text that are preceded by a number/word/group of characters of choice that would be “outdented” in relation to the text. As an illustration of this, here aer links to two screen shots from publications that use this:

I suppose this could be done manually by inserting a tab at each point, but this doesn’t seem to be a very practicable solution and I’m user Mellel has a way to do this. I just don’t know what it is. (I wouldn't like to do this by means of invisible tables—for many reasons.) Please, help me with this, if you can. I’d like to create a style that would encompass this feature.

What about a paragraph setting with an indent of 0.25" (or similar), with a left margin of 0.5"? You can also make the rest of the first line align with the margin of the body by setting a left tab to the same position as the left margin.
