New user, I just purchased Mellel 4.2.
Question: I have been unable to access (display) the pop-up menus unless I'm in full-screen mode. In full-screen mode, they always display and I cannot remove for a full screen of just the document.

The video on fonts shows highlighting the text will cause the font menu pop-up to display. It doesn't--at least for me.

The video on fonts isn't a general introduction to the Mellel interface and could be a little misleading on this point. To get to the various dropdown menus relating to fonts you need to have the Character palette open with the Attributes tab selected. From the menus you get this with Window > Toggle Palettes. Or you can hit command-asterisk on the keyboard. At that point you'll see the options displayed in the video. By default they'll show up in the upper right hand corner of your screen.

The Mellel Guide and various other online videos provide good general introductions to palettes.
