Is there a way to split one table into two?

Post by Bensch »

Hi!

I have got a very long table here that I would like to split up into several ones (creating ten tables with 10 rows out of one with 100). Is that possible? Couldn't find any hint regarding that in the guide...

Thx for your help,
Bensch

I don't think so.

Two possible workarounds:

1. Copy and paste table and delete unwanted rows.
or
2. Select the part of the table that you want. Copy. Paste in the place where you want the new table. You will get text separated by tabs and returns. Select that text and use Edit>Convert Text to Table

Thanks a lot for your advices!

But I guess for my case they are not convenient... I was just talking about an example, but actually I would have to make about 50 tables out of one. Would be a mess...
So I'll just go with one table, that's viable, too...

Thanks again,

I have exactly the same problem as discussed in this old thread. Is it still true that a long Mellel table can't be split into several smaller tables? Anyway, I wouldn't know how to do this.

If you click in the table you wish to change, then click on the Table palette, you will see at the very bottom of the Table palette small icons, two of which have + signs. Those plus signs let you add a column, or a row, to the table you had previously clicked on. So yes, you can make any table into any other kind of table with those + icons.

But the question was about splitting, not about adding …
