page numbers of a text

Post by raymond »

Hello,

I wish to be able to page numbering a text of about 50 pages.
I need the following formate:
- The first 5 pages without page numbers at all.
- the next 3 pages numbering the pages with latin letters
- the rest of the text with regular page numbering.

How do I it correctly.
TIA for detailed explanations.

Very simple: use Insert/Breaks/Page Style Break
1. for the first 5 pages use a page style with no numbers
2. at the end of page 5, insert the Page Style Break
3. now use a page style with Latin letter numbering
4. at the end of 3 pages, insert Page Style Break
5. now use a page style with regular page numbering

Janet's solution works, but then it does not, because pages are still numbered from the beginning, so you can have 5 un-numbered pages at the beginning, but if you want Roman numbers on the following pages they will start with VI, not I, and when you switch to normal numbers later, they will just pick up where the Romans left off.
Have I missed something?

I think what you want is to go to:

pallette>page>attributes>start at

In this box you can set the starting page number for a section.

Thanks for all proposals.
I'll try them.

One further question: How would I create a page style or different page styles?

Styles/Edit Style Sets/Page
-- use the "+" button to create a new style
-- use the "pencil" [edit] button to change an existing style
Don'e forget, you have to Save each change/addition as you go and then Save the entire Style Set when you are finished

I just noticed that starting page number is not part of the page style definition -- you will have to change that from the palettes
