Gushy First Impressions

Post by GeoEng51 »

I got Mellel in a software package from MacUpdate a while back, but didn't give it a test drive until just recently. My first impression is very positive - this is a capable word processor with a control panel that is so logical and intuitive I can't understand why someone else hasn't done it before! Very well done. Time will tell, but I really like Mellel and it may become my favourite and "go to" word processor. I really don't like Word, although I have been forced to use it at work, and while Pages is OK, it is too simple. I feel like Goldilocks with the three word processors (oops, "bears") - Word is much too bloated and confusing, Pages is too simple, and Mellel is "just right". Kudos to the developers!!

By the way - I saw somewhere that there is a new version coming out with a "much improved" interface. I hope you won't "improve" it too much - it is so practical and functional right now, it's hard to think how it could be improved, except with additional capabilities. So - don't screw up the logical / practical control panel - PLEASE!

Thanks!
Regarding the much improved interface, I think I understand what you mean by "improved": reducing the complexity by removing control and adding "magic". This is not our philosophy.
We understand that with power comes some complexity and this sometimes requires having more buttons or menus or dialogs and may also require some learning (the famous "learning curve"). We think that the right way to deal with complexity is not to hide it but rather expose it, in a way that makes sense. The improvements are designed to make Mellel even more consistent with our philosophy and more direct and, of-course, look better.
At any rate, stay tuned for news about Mellel 4.0 and I encourage you to join the beta (when available) we welcome and appreciate the feedback.
