How much would you like the ability to split Mellel's main window horizontally for viewing two places in a document simultaneously?

Feature request: split window

Post by Ralph »

Now that I'm writing book-length projects with Mellel, I would really like the ability to view two places in a document simultaneously. You know, look at p. 28 and p. 212 at the same time to compare, fix incompatibilities, etc.

Word, BBEdit, and others do this by allowing you to split the main window horizontally, and scroll (and search) both panes independently. You can even drag-drop text from one pane to the other.

I think this would be a superb addition to Mellel.

What do you think? Poll attached.

Yes, but both horizontal and vertical split.

What's the point of the vertical split? Horizontal seems vastly more important to me.

Don’t know what’s the benefit of a vertical split, but I like to see a diagonal one. No other software I know has this, so Mellel would be the market leader!

O.k., seriously, a horizontal split would be great, especially with the planned cross-references feature. Then you could see the reference and the part it references to at a glance.

Bi-directional split is really cool. Pixen, a graphics program, has a really interesting implementation if the Redlers wanted some inspiration...

I’ve downloaded and tried Pixen but I couldn’t find the Bi-directional spilt you’ve mentioned. Could you give a hint how to activate it?

I was wondering where this feature request is. It has become an indispensable feature for me.

I purchased an upgrade license to Mellel but don't generally write in it because of this. (I use Scrivener)

Comments?

thanks

I too would love this feature, and eagerly await it. Unfortunately the poll is closed, otherwise I would vote. So count this as a vote.

Split screens

Yes, I would also really like this option, to solve the problem of chapters in books, I currently keep all chapters as single files to be able to read at two different places.
- cheers, arent
