"no error"-error on Mellel doc

Post by Mark »

Some weeks ago I created a mellel file. When I try to open it now, an error message appears: "no error". I have not changed the version of mellel since. What can have caused this?

even stranger, when I click on "show package contents" in the finder, all I see is a gzipped xml file that can not be opened or unzipped. There is also a folder called "Bibliographic references", without acess for me. WTF?

Same Problem, no solution

Post by rick »

I have had the same problem several times, including in December when I lost a nearly completed term paper! No suggested solution worked, so I am still using Melel 2.0.8.

I am running a PPC with OS 10.3.9, so maybe that is part of the problem.

Hi Rick, I am running Mellel on top of 10.4.9 (Intel MacBook), so I don't think PPC is the problem. Would the new mellel version help? I think I am losing trust in this program

Mark,

Sorry to here this problem exists with Intel running 10.4.x. I was hoping that whenever I get a new machine/operating system that I could upgrade Mellel. I don't know if the new version will help. I am still scarred from my experience of losing a 20 page paper to run anything beyond 2.0.8, which has never crashed or caused me any grief at all.

Mark,

If you send us the problem document then we might be able to
a. Fix the bug that's causing it (if any)
b. Salvage the document contents.

Dear Eyal,
thank you for your offer, but now something strange occured: I tried to attach the file in mail but it would not let me, so I tried to create an archive in the finder. This got me an error message because of permissions. I opened the package contents, clicked on "information" and saw, that indeed the permissions for the file inside the package were set to no one (under "details"). I re-set the permissions to me ("read and write") and now it works again; I can read the files and everything works. I have no idea what caused this bug. I backup my files to an extra disk (with ibackup), but I never had to re-boot from that disk.

Shall I send the files to you anyway?

Thank you,
Mark

It seems as if the problem was the bad permissions on the file so I don't see any point in sending the file to us. I also suspect that it is not a Mellel bug. I would run a disk check program to make sure the disk is in good shape.
