Using different colors

Post by nadinbrzezinski »

Ok, I am stumped Tried to use different font colors for different sections of text

When I take notes, or create characters, at times I like to use a header with one color and main text with another. (It is also useful when tracking changes when I don't want to go to Neo)

As far as I am aware, the best solution would be to create a character style that includes the necessary color. You can access the color that the font will be displayed in on the "Character Appearance" Palette. Once you change the color, you can make that color part of the Header/Footer style (via "Character style" palette). You could also make a certain color an attribute of a character style variation (A, B, C, etc.). This can be done through the "Style Sets" > "Edit Styles" menu.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if further explanation is required.

Nadin, there are lots of ways to do this depending on how you like to work.

1. ad hoc: use the Character Appearance Palette to change the color of your text
2. Charcter style: in Style Sets/Edit Style Sets/Character, define a character style with colored test. For example, Red Notes.
3. Paragraph style (background color): in Style Sets/Edit Style Sets/Paragraph, define a paragraph style with colored background.
4. Markers (background color): in Edit/Marker turn on a marker color.

Check out the Mellel Tutorial and/or the Mellel Guide for more complete instructions.

It helped, I can do some of what I meant, thanks.

On Edit, after playing a little more, I have now created a couple Editing styles and that helps to mark text

It is slightly slower than just go "Track Changes" in Word, neo or I Works, but it works, and when editing it is good to slow down anyway
