Mellel for iPhone

Post by Eyal Redler »

I'm contemplating an iPhone version for Mellel and I would love to hear your thoughts about it.

The idea is to provide an app that will allow you to view and edit the text, but with limited formatting and configuration ability, it will be 100% compatible with the Mac version (so documents will look the same and there will be no issues for documents going back and forth between the mac and the iPhone) but there will things you will be able to configure only on the mac so the general idea is more like a companion to the mac application rather than a full fledged stand alone product.

We already have a version for iPad which means that technically we don't have much work on the core of the app, however, it is an effort and truth is, the iPad app is not a good source of revenues since it is a one time payment and there is no way to charge for updates on the app store.

Now to the questions:
1. Does Mellel for iPhone sound like something you'll want to us or need?
2. Would you be willing to pay a subscription for such an app.
3. What would be the most important feature for such an app, will the app as I described it above be enough? If not, what's missing?

I would prefer adding some functionality to the iPad app rather than an iPhone app. The market is rather saturated with writing/note apps so I would question the return on the investment.

I use Mellel for longer form writing so an iPhone app would not add a great deal for me. Where the existing iPad app adds value is to read, tweak and edit existing text. Although I think the iPad app works well I feel the user experience could be improved. For example, I would also like to see if it could be used in conjunction with Bookends.

Best wishes

I would rather have the iPad version of Mellel be updated to work better with the macOS version of Mellel.
