Re: quicklook

DevonThink 2 public beta is out today. Alas, Mellel files still remain utterly opaque to it. I don't know whether QuickLook will help when Mellel 2.6 appears. Currently DevonThink seems to be aware of the text in a Mellel document, but can't display it in any way. To get a sense of context, you have...

Re: footnote shortcut doesn't work (anymore)

ServiceScrubber will show you all the shortcuts for installed services (which are very often what hijack other shortcuts) and let you change them. Otherwise it's always going to be either global shortcuts (System Preferences > Keyboard will show you them) or what we might call LurkingApps like Siden...

Re: mellel beta

With the greatest respect, for those of us who have to maintain communication with the Real World (a.k.a. Poor Fools Who Know No Better) (a.k.a. Publishers), *nothing* could be more important than compatibility with Word's comment and track changes features. It's the main reason I have other WPs on ...

Re: What does NWP 1.1 preview mean for Mellel?

Damn. I came here looking for v1@gr@ but looks like I'm out of luck. And I just tried shifting a 132,000word manuscript into Nisus Pro (complicated reasons but valid). Molasses. 92% CPU and nothing happening. Every time I yawned it repaginated and on a G5 iMac with a mere 1Gb RAM (and nothing else r...

Re: Wishlist for version 2.6

My list: URGENT QuickLook Word -compatible comments and change tracking MOST DESIRABLE Keyboard shortcuts for Insert Autotitle (so the Outline pane finally becomes something workable instead of a wrist-aching exercise in mousing.) Save As... rtf, Word etc. No more "Export"ing Undo after sa...

Re: Feature request: Marginalia, also numbered

I entirely agree. These (if I understand the previous poster) aren't the same as marginal comments, but are intended to be part of the final printed output. Being a damned discursive man I already use footnotes for an argument or a glossing or a subtle undermining of the main text; to have marginali...

Re: footnote shortcut doesn't work (anymore)

I had precisely the same problem. Drove me mad for ages, then I discovered that, behind the scenes, the shortcut had been (legitimately) hijacked by the excellent SideNote to trigger New Note. A couple of seconds reassigning SideNote's shortcuts and we were back to normal.

Re: Where are cross references / text flow around images?

Just to clarify, my post on pakapaka wasn't meant to be insulting or a covert snipe. Just an observation on the word. But I too am starting to fret. It has been a long time. Personally I am beginning to think "Good enough, now" is better than "Perfect, some day." "Next month...

Lorem ipsum (or PakaPaka) filling text generator that would facilitate experimenting with styles and layout
Um. In the bars of Tel Aviv, "pakapaka" is like "blah blah blah" only ruder. "How was Lev?" "The usual. Paka paka paka, me me me, all night long." 8)

Does entering the following in your Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal) help? /usr/bin/mdimport -r /Library/Spotlight/Mellel.mdimporter D'oh. Yes. Thank you very much. [SLAPS FOREHEAD, GRUNTS] But I'm still complaining about QuickLook and CoverFlow, d'you hear me? STILL COMPLAINING.

Re: Book manuscript: Single File or Separate for Chapters?

Single file has been fine for me on several manuscripts -- the most challenging being one with multiple-level autoheadings, four note streams (don't ask!), multiple sections, header "mentions" and all the rest of it. No problems at all. I wonder if the idea of separate chapter files is a h...

Re: Spotlight for Leopard

On my setup, Spotlight will (apparently) only index files which have been opened. Attempts to re-install the Mellel Spotlight plugin get an error in processing the postinstall script. Result: my Mellel files are still invisible. A major inconvenience. A word from the brothers as to what the problem ...

Re: Where are cross references / text flow around images?

In its current form, Mellel is great for short 10 - 20 page academic documents but not for anything longer as the added bookkeeping chore of having to manually sort out references places too much of a burden on me. I have to disagree. I've written everything in Mellel since it first appeared, inclu...

Happy to do so when I get a moment. (I'm over deadline at the moment & I can hear publishers breathing heavily and keening in the night.)
