Re: MathType and Catalina

I occasionally need math in a document. When that comes up, I create images of LaTeX equations in Keynote and save the Keynote file with the Mellel document. That lets me edit the equations. For my light usage, it works. Things I write that involve notes go in a folder with supporting information, o...

Re: Page Style Break Question

I may not have communicated very well. What I meant was I found an autotitle setting that would cause the problem, if you are using autotitles.

If you aren't using autotitles at all, nothing I said has any application. It was just a wild guess.

Re: Page Style Break Question

I'm a Mellel newbie. Take what I have to say with a grain of salt, if not morphine, but I can duplicate what I think you're seeing. I have to set some specific options and I think I see a work-around. Does this scenario match what you see? Set the "insert before" option in an auto-title to "column b...

Re: epub images not appearing, a fix, and error sending to support

I think Mellel is pretty close. Docx output from Mellel seems to work fine with Kindle Create. New nerd tools are all kinds of fun. I would grab a copy of Vellum, but it's expensive. I can fix Mellel epub files and I suspect a fix will be implemented soon enough, anyway. It's not like I'm very close...

Re: epub images not appearing, a fix, and error sending to support

Followup observations, with more fixes, and the realization I'm completely out of step with the world. My wife was right, again. Kindle Previewer doesn't like Mellel files and logs two classes of errors that are really just one problem. KP will barf, whining about unknown tags (autotitle), and it wi...

epub images not appearing, a fix, and error sending to support

This may be at my end - I get an error, "Couldn't send data (Failed to connect (701))" when I use Help->Support to send a question. Here's what I sent. Angle braces around xhtml tags were omitted in this message, thinking that might be why the error message appeared: An image used as a chapter headi...

Re: epub heading flow, tag headings flow

I think I figured this out, but it's a little down on my list of things to test. The heading flow is the paragraph style to use for the auto-titles included in the epub's TOC. The tag flow is the paragraph style to use for footnotes, endnotes, and other Mellel tag flows used in the epub's TOC. A tag...

Re: Mail merge - from Mellel to a pile of envelopes

Affinity Publisher is a great app. You have to save the Mellel document (you want to import to AF) as a docx file, and then import them to Affinity Publisher through Menu - File - Place. I concur. It's great and it's actively developed. It will only get better. Have you ever heard the old joke abou...

Mail merge - from Mellel to a pile of envelopes

I've been whining for years about not having a utility that will do a mail merge outside of a word processor. I searched Google, I asked friends, and nobody could point to anything other than utilities that merge email. If you want to do a print mail merge, turn off your ego and install something th...

Re: File format for greatest longevity

Mellel deserves credit for safe document design. A hundred years from now a programmer with no exposure to Mellel could extract an ASCII version of a Mellel document without trouble.

It's a safe format.

epub heading flow, tag headings flow

I'm not sure what these options do in epub export. They are found in the "Spine, TOC & Notes" tab. The heading flow and tag headings flow seem to be paragraph styles, not auto-flows, and no matter what I select the TOC looks the same. This could be due to the software I'm using to view the ebook, to...

Re: Changing foot notes to end notes

Aha! Figured out the "below text" option. If you have a note set to display at the bottom of the page, that's where it always goes. If it's set to appear below text, it will appear immediately below the text of the page. If the page is half full, the footnote will be in the middle of the page. If th...

Re: Changing foot notes to end notes

The notes section of chapter 4 of the manual covers note streams. Section/paragraph 9 on page 66 discusses changing note positions with this comment, "Changing the notes placement essentially changes them from footnotes to endnotes." On a casual test, it appears to work fine. A footnote isn't really...

Re: Inserting citations from Bookends

Curious - under Accessiblity I see Bookends but it is not allowed to control my computer.

But command-Y/control-command-Y work. I have to have Bookends open, otherwise command-Y just gets a disappointed beep.

Interesting.

Re: Inserting citations from Bookends

Forgot - there is also a bibliography setting in Mellel's preferences - mine gives the options of Bookends and Sente.
