Re: Track Changes and MS Word

I'd tried importing as an .rtf, but Mellel told me I couldn't even open the file as it was not an .rtf format. The problem is planning on others sending me an MS Word doc as an .rtf. They need to be able to send it to me as a .doc or .docx file with track changes, then I need to be able to open the ...

Track Changes and MS Word

I was SO EXCITED to see that Mellel had finally incorporated tracking changes. Until I tried to use it, that is. The purpose of needing track changes is to be able to collaborate with others who may not own Mellel, which is pretty much everybody I collaborate with. I tried to import a document from ...

Re: selecting non-contiguous text

I just don't see the burning need. We'll just have to agree that we have entirely different workflows. If I am writing, I'll get into the flow of things and clean up afterward. Also, your scenario assumes that you're the one creating the document. In many cases, I inherit a document that I would th...

Re: selecting non-contiguous text

I have to say, I have never used non-contiguous text selection in my life, had no idea it even existed in word or any other editor or word processor, and don't really see any great use for it. DRM This blows my mind. Here's a use that I could guess you've possibly wanted before but not been able to...

Re: selecting non-contiguous text

As far as Mellel's heritages is concerned, I certainly agree that it made its way into the market by catering to a base of users that needed better handling of international alphabets and RTL encoding. I don't mean to take away from that at all, and there's a lot to be said for a fiercely loyal user...

Re: selecting non-contiguous text

Patrick, Thanks for your informative replies. You say that non-contiguous text selection was only introduced in os 10.4, but that seems off to me. I've been using Mac since its Classic days. Perhaps there was no system-wide 'hook' for such selections for developers, but non-contiguous selection has ...

Re: selecting non-contiguous text

for most people, I don't believe that's really a good trade off. It makes for a clunky system to work with, especially since it's a feature that's been part of the system for well over a decade. I would encourage the developers to figure out a way to make it happen. As an extension to this thought, ...

selecting non-contiguous text

Is there a way to select non-contiguous text in Mellel? I want to make changes to several portions of a page at once, but they're not right by each other. In every other program I own, I can hold down the command key to make non-contiguous selections. Why won't this work in Mellel? More importantly,...

Re: versioning/commenting tools?

Does this meant that, in the next update, we'll see integration (seamless, of course) with MS Word's reviewing tools? That is the BIGGEST factor stopping me from using Mellel as my sole word processor. I tend to write up my initial drafts in Mellel, but as soon as I send them off to collaborate with...

Re: losing formatted citation

thanks for sharing your workflow with me. I've been updating a paper today and I am beginning to get used to it. I'm definitely a 'remove hands from keyboard as little as possible' kind of person. My only question is, why does it have to be one way or the other? The most user-friendly programs I use...

Re: losing formatted citation

OK, I'm sheepishly saying I've now looked and found this information in the Mellel Guide and it all works out as you two have both mentioned. Thank you so much (I'd checked the forums, but skipped this in the Guide). It's odd to me, though, that there would be an "edit citation" dialog tha...

losing formatted citation

I use Sente as my bibliographic manager. I write using APA 5th and when I insert references, I often use the "edit citation" option in Mellel to make changes to how the in-text citations ought to appear in Mellel. For example, sometimes, I'll cite an author like this Johnson (1987) stated,...
