I love Mellel but for some reason cannot find the separator for footnotes. I'm writing a legal brief and honestly it looks bad, because the footnotes are not separated from the body of the brief. There is NO separator at all.

I have to file a brief in federal court today and am at my wits' end how to close up blank spaces on the page. This occurs when I have a long series of footnotes. Perhaps the footnotes "think" they have to stay together. Ideas?

Opposite problem, I think. I have long footnotes. Wind up with too much whitespace in the body of the document. I can't get the notes to split. I've checked the box "split from reference" but nothing.
