Re: Prevent Mellel from compressing index.xml.gz?
Why would you want to? I'm mostly curious. It is more efficient when using version control software. Tools such as Bazaar or Subversion can understand differences between plain text files (such as xml) and do only incremental versioning. On the other hand, with a binary file (.gz) the whole file is...

Prevent Mellel from compressing index.xml.gz?
Hello all,
Does anybody know if it is possible to prevent Mellel from compressing the index.xml file in the packages, as it can be done in Apple Pages?

Re: Problem with bookends and journal articles
I have the same problem. It doesn't only happen with journal articles, though. Books also suffer from it sometimes (never on secondary citations, though).

Floating image obscures footnotes
I'm trying out Mellel's floating image feature. Aside from the disappointment over not being able to float captions (this alone makes floating an image a pretty useless feature), I found that the object wrap feature does not work with footnotes. Instead of causing it to wrap, moving an image over a ...

Re: French typography : automatic no-break before ? ; : !
I do, and I agree the next best thing to having a narrow space shortcut is to do a search and replace. Other than that, I have issues with the US-International keyboard layout interfering with the "smart" quotes functionality. Explanation: since double quotes in the US-Intl keylayout dubs ...

Re: Mellel 2.7 around the corner...
Wonderful! I'm sure Mellel's image flow will kick Word's a**, as every feature in Mellel has done so far. Can't wait to see it. Looks like I won't have to learn TeX for my dissertation's final draft after all…

Re: Book Layout Two-Up PDF
No need to take it to external applications. Open the pdf in Preview and print out with a 2-pages-per-sheet layout. You can even use both sides of the paper, just make a first run with odd pages reverse order, then a second run with even pages normal order.

Re: Greek character style
The trouble with using *only* the keyboard layout is that the font will revert to the system-standard for that language; in the case of Greek, it is ugly and accent-impaired Symbol. Setting the secondary font correctly will let you choose an appropriate font.

Re: Book Layout Two-Up PDF
The only workaround I know to the extra margin is to go to Page Setup and set a zoom of 110% or so (this zoom works in my printer for a 2-up layout of A4 pages; ymmv).

Re: Greek character style
He might not; the secondary character set is automatically activated when you select the appropriate keyboard layout (command+space is the standard system shortcut, or command+option+space if you use more than two layouts). The tricky part is when you use more than two writing systems (I sometimes c...

Re: Greek character style
Your keyboard layout (a system setting) must be set to Greek in addition to the style (a Mellel setting).

Re: Goodbye Microsoft 2008; bring it on Mellel!
Text flow around images is a must for good print layout, and not only to make "cute" image insets. What if I have to leave 3/4 of a page blank because I want to insert a full-page picture at a certain point in my text? The reader will certainly think this is the end of the chapter, only to...

Re: Still waiting for text wrap around on images
If you export the Mellel document as a rtf file, and then first open it in OpenOffice and then save it again as rtf, Pages will be able to open up the document and all the footnotes are retained. You're right, it's as ugly a workaround as it gets, but at least it works... Would be good to have a Pa...

Re: Still waiting for text wrap around on images
Even then, if Mellel at least did a decent job of exporting a word document or even directly to Pages... Right now if I try to export a document with footnotes to word or rtf, Pages won't read the footnotes... Whereas a word or rtf exported from OpenOffice reads perfectly into Pages, footnotes and a...
