Re: Feature request: split view
Yes, as of 6.0.3, using the menu command View > Dual View Side-by-Side introduces a vertical split and changes the appearance and function of the Toggle button to produce or eliminate such a split each time you use it. View > Dual View Stacked gives you a Toggle button that alternately produces or e...

Re: How to embed video in Mellel document?
The answer to all four questions is “no,” I believe. The target of a Mellel hyperlink must be a URL, an email address, or an external file. The hyperlink option isn’t available when the selection is an image. And Mellel has no facilities for turning text into an image.

Re: Shading background (not just lines of text)
Amontillado's suggestion is probably best, if you can live with the background color going all the way to your margins, since Mellel doesn't currently allow you to assign a background to individual paragraphs as such. You can assign a fill color to a text box, which reaches only to the adjustable ed...

Re: Question regarding page numbering...
You need to be using Page attributes to do this, not Auto-Titles. (The numbering options on Auto-Titles affect how numbers in the Auto-Titles themselves behave, not how page numbers behave on the pages where the Auto-Titles occur.) When you set up a styling for page numbers in the Page Palette (incl...

Re: import find sets from Mellel 5 to Mellel 5.1
This should work, since I don’t believe there have been any changes in the format of find sets. But it’s important to put such things in the user library application support folder. Mellel ignores application support folders located in other places. To locate this, choose "Go to folder..."...

Re: Table of Contents/Dot Leaders/Tab Leaders
You can certainly set tabs with dot leaders directly if you see fit. Double clicking on the tab well or right clicking on the ruler brings up an Add Tab Stops box that lets you set a Tab lead character.

Re: Where is the 'Chapter" AutoTitle Hiding?
What your screen shot shows is the default Auto-title configuration provided for by Mellel’s blank templates. The illustration of the Configure Auto-titles window in the User Manual shows a document with a different custom configuration, where one top level stream has been given the identification “...

Re: Importing old autotitle formats into Mellel 5.1
If you made these streams and styles before the advent of Mellel 5, they may simply be in the wrong application support folder. Autotitle streams, style sets, templates and the like are stored in named subfolders of the user application support folder. When Mellel went to version 5, its official nam...

Re: Manually moving Mellel to a new Mac
All these things are stored in the user application support folder. (Mellel ignores the various application support folders in other places on your Mac.) It's important that this be copied when Mellel isn't running. Here are the step by step instructions Eyal gave me when I asked about this a year a...

Re: two independent columns of text
Hi Icelander, I could be wrong, but I think you’ve misunderstood Birkswork’s needs. As I understand him, he wants to present two separate streams of text in parallel columns of a single document, with alignment controls to keep a passage and its translation, or comparable passages from two source te...

Re: cancel converting text to citations
Other regulars in this forum have more experience with Bookends than I do, and should correct any mistakes in what follows. Here's my sense of how these things work: Although Mellel can turn delimited text entered by hand into citation objects that can be scanned and unscanned by Bookends, it can’t ...

Re: Formatting Questions
Amontillado has already covered note placement in a very thorough way. But you also asked styling the table of contents. I can’t tell from what you say how your style manual wants the “continuation lines” connecting entries with page numbers to look in your table of contents. Right now seem to be ty...

Re: two independent columns of text
A very different option, free but with a longer learning curve, is the LaTex typesetting system, originally created for mathematics but having lots of non mathematical uses. Several of the add-on “packages” that come with a basic LaTex installation and can be called in as you need them are designed ...
