Paste text and have it take on current styles?

It is possible in Word to paste text into a tagged paragraph and have the pasted text take on the current styles of the paragraph. Is this possible in Mellel, or does one have to select and tag the pasted text manually?

Re: Trouble with function keys for bold and italics

Many hours later, I have come up with my own solution. It's a pity this Mellel forum is so inactive; I sure appreciate when a quick forum reply can save an hour of googling for answers. So for those who have the same problem, here is the solution: http://www.megethos.com/Phrasikleia/FunctionKeys.png...

Re: What is this diamond telling me?

Thanks. I was unable to find any way to search for a paragraph attribute in the find/replace dialogue box, so I just poked around in my text until I found the bit that was producing that diamond. I like that Word has an option to "select all" instances of a certain style, which makes findi...

Is there a way to clear these kinds of unwanted styles?

Re: Character spacing/tracking?

I'm a bit surprised that you can put up with Word's typography, by the way. Admittedly, it has more features, but the basic look of the text is pretty awful, in my opinion, and as you must know, there's no support for advanced typographic features in OpenType fonts. One other point: if cross-refere...

Trouble with function keys for bold and italics

I understand that the best way to include bold and italics is to use the function keys that trigger character style variations. However, when I press F2 or F3 on my keyboard, I don't invoke the variations. Instead, F2 does nothing, and F3 triggers Exposé. I'm using the new chicklet-style Apple Exten...

Re: Character spacing/tracking?

I have that very book by Bringhurst and learned a lot from it. I don't think any typophiles will take to Mellel without such a basic typographic control as character spacing in place. I now have to decide whether the robust cross-referencing in Mellel makes up for such a glaring omission. Word can o...

What is this diamond telling me?

Why is that diamond + "Par. style" telling me? Is this a style override? If so, how do I get rid of it?

Re: Character spacing/tracking?

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's not quite the same thing. I like to have my subheadings set in the same typeface as the body, but in a slightly smaller size, all caps, and with a bit of air between the characters. It's a typographic nicety that I will really miss. Is character spacing slated for...

Re: New user : help with cross references

I read through chapter 25 of the beginner's tutorial and nowhere does it say anything about applying character formatting to references. Where in that tutorial is the process of applying styles or character formatting to cross-references explained? I'm not finding it. I'm also unable to get styles t...

Re: Character spacing/tracking?

Wow. What a disappointment. I'm surprised Mellel would have a sophisticated feature like cross-referencing and yet no character spacing!

How to edit the character attributes of cross references?

This thread has been very helpful for me. I also need to have a series of figures that are automatically numbered and referenced in the text. So far I seem to have everything working except for the character attributes for both the auto-titles and the cross-references in the text: they all show as s...

Character spacing/tracking?

If there is a way in Mellel to control character spacing, I'm at a loss to discover it. I'm not talking about kerning; I want my subheadings set in caps with expanded character spacing. Help, please!
