Primitive Index
Having read the various suggestions and comments on indexing, I suggest a useful "primitive" capability available in Word, which might be mirrored easily in Mellel. In Word one can construct a "concordance" table with two columns. The first is the set of search terms; the second ...

Re: Importing a Word document into Mellel
Don Thanks. Is it possible to have your beginners' guide show up on the Mellel Help menu,? I would have thought to see a folder with help-menu files, but I don't. As for the basic Mellel guide, it seems that if one pulls it up from help, annotates, and quits, it is the annotated version that is kept...

Re: Importing a Word document into Mellel
Don I agree that a beginner would definitely benefit from your excellent beginner's manual. I have a question for you, however. Preface to question: I would like: a. To annotate both the official manual and your beginner's manual b. To have the file names indicate that they have been annotated c. To...

Janet
Thanks. Actually, the keyboard viewer option wasn't on (it can be set at System Preferences/International/Input Menu). Once I turned that on, I found that was indeed quite convenient. Thanks.

Accent marks, lower case
A small issue of minimal consequence but some annoyance. I understand that I can insert accent marks using the Leopard insert menu (with a flag on the top menu, if set to be there in System Preferences). However, I don't understand why I can't insert accent marks over small-case letters within Melle...

Stimulating the Bookends buttons
The labels for the Bookends buttons in the Mellel Bibliography pallette group are often wrong. The button for "Scan" may have a popup label "Create new style." Although the buttons themselves appear to be ok, I would think that some simple operation would "stimulate" th...

Re: Wishlist for version 2.6
Most urgent: 19 (Word integration), 1 (indexing) Indexing is obviously hard, but it seems to me quite doable now that Mellel has cross references and a good search and replace capability. As for Word "integration," much more would be readily possible than we now have. Pages and what some f...
Re: 2.5 Beta
Ori described on January 7 (in the Nitty Gritty Forum) some of what would be in Mellel 2.5's cross referencing. I believe that you can reasonably assume that description applies to the eta.

Automatic adjustment of styes
I know that this works, and I have done it before, but I must have the wrong setting somewhere. If I change a style (e.g., change a heading's font or increase the chapter heading style so that the title is followed by a larger gap before the first paragraph or next heading), the changes should just ...

Re: Images are blurry.... what to do?
Two additions to what has been said: 1. Beware of pdf images if you're using Word at some point because of standardization or collaborators. At least through Office 2004, Word mangles pdfs: a clean image can, when printed, turn out blurry. As a result, I use pngs, with which I've had excellent succe...

Re: Footnote by page, with endnotes
I had changed the footnote style in Edit Style Sets. When I did what you suggest (use Insert/Note/Edit Note Attributes), I saw that it was set as I intended. However, I noted that the Note Stye said "Footnote+". I have long since forgotten the arcane reason for related problems (something ...

Footnote by page, with endnotes
I am having trouble having my footnotes restart "numbering" by page. They continue to increase continuously. I had thought this had worked in the past, so it's probably something idiotic that I am doing.???

Re: Importing and Exporting Styles
I didn't know that Pages was slow and bloated, which is a disappointment to hear, but in any case it's not yet up to the kind of writing that I do. Mellel is much better as yet (after climbing the learning curve). Unfortunately, Word compatibility is a big-deal issue for me because of (1) collaborat...

Importing and Exporting Styles
The subject of styles has been discussed previously, but I raise it again because iWork's Pages 08 seems to be able to import Word styles, allow writing in Pages using those styles, and allow exporting to Word in Word's styles. Can we expect that Mellel will be able to do similarly and, if so, in a ...
