Re: Collaborating using rtf format plus Bookends
Robert, I am missing your point. To send someone a file to mark up in Word, I normally export to rtf. I then open in the Word application and save-as to Word, which reduces file size by a factor of perhaps 10. I then send that. Is there a step I could skip? Yes, just send the RTF document. If you w...

Re: Collaborating using rtf format plus Bookends
RTF is actually a Microsoft Word native format. The specs for the RTF format are updated each time Microsoft releases a new version of Word, and every feature that Word supports is actually part of the RTF spec. There should be no need to open the RTF in Word to convert to a Word format, because RTF...

Re: iPad and Mac sync
Non-Mac App Store versions of any software cannot access the iCloud filesystem. That functionality is a carrot (or stick, depending upon your view) that Apple uses to get applications into the MAS; if you want iCloud features, you have to buy/sell through the App Store. There is a rough workaround, ...

Re: Copy and paste between different paragraph styles
So essentially you are requesting an option to paste, and then to apply the current paragraph style to the newly inserted text? Another option is to assign a keyboard shortcut to your body text paragraph style, then you only have to hit CMD+V to paste, and then SHIFT+F1 to apply the body paragraph s...

Re: Kerning
Kerning tables are built into the fonts themselves. A kerning table tells display software (such as Mellel) that a pair of characters should have their spacing adjusted differently than the default. For example, 'VA': by default each character lives in its own box, but when an author supplies a kern...

Re: Kerning
I believe what is implied here is manual kerning pairs, and adjustable inter-character letter spacing. Some programs (like Word Perfect) allowed you to manually set kerning pairs to override a font's default kerning. Some other programs allow you to adjust the letter spacing on an ad hoc basis or th...

Re: Small Caps and Italic/Bold
If I remember correctly, the "Case" option for small caps are fake small caps. The option under "OpenType" are to select the true small caps supplied in a font. And yes, reading your description for your "workaround", it does not sound like a workaround at all, but rath...

Re: Small Caps and Italic/Bold
I suppose that seems to be a font issue, assuming you're using real small caps and not the fake type. If you're using real small caps, and are unable to use them in bold italic, are you certain that your chosen face offers a bold italic small cap?

Re: Landscape Figures and Captions
No, that is not currently possible without some creative workarounds. You can rotate the image in Preview before pasting into Mellel. But for the other parts, there really isn't an easy way to achieve that.

Re: Mellel on ipad
To input the vowels while typing in Hebrew, your keyboard must support it not the app. If the default Hebrew keyboard for the iPad does not support nikud, there are a few third-party keyboards in the App Store that do.

Re: Paragraph numbering
One option is to use an Auto-Title as the first entry of a paragraph. Set its display to only include the number (but you could use the Title for quick reference in the Outline pane or for cross-references), and this ought to give you the outcome you're looking for. It would be a bit cumbersome beca...

Re: Thumbnails in document sidebar?
Mellel does not show thumbnails. However, if you structure your documents using Auto-Titles, the Outline pane can be used for navigation and reordering.

Re: new melee user- auto-title question
Auto-Titles can be configured however you like. I personally do not care for the defaults; check out the Mellel Guide for an in depth explanation of Auto-Titles and their customization.
For interchange, your only real option is RTF.

What does the Auto-Title look like in the editor? I'm assuming you have it set as: Prev#.Cur# Title

Re: Problems Exporting RTL languages to Word
Does the publisher offer any other options than Word? Just because one person says that, it does not necessarily mean that it truly is your only option. I am currently working on an interlinearly glossed text with mixed RTL and LTR. After finding that expex (a great glossing package for TeX) doesn't...
