Re: Finalizing a document - how to deal with citations?

It might be nice if there were some option to over-ride the citation produced by Bookends in a persistent manner that would survive a re-scanning of the document. As far as I can see, the only way to avoid this is to have Live Bibliography turned on from the very beginning. Live Bibliography seems ...

Re: Handling of URLs in bibliography

I just skimmed the article by Angela Gibson; I truncated the long URL I mentioned earlier, and it worked!
I have always used 'Short Menu' to shorten URLs, so I have never thought much about this until now.

Re: Handling of URLs in bibliography

I'm constrained for the moment by the MLA Style Guide's recommendations for dealing with URLs But as you say yourself, these guidelines are *recommendations* and not a law. I guess this ultimately depends on your doctoral advisor. The MLA Handbook 8th edition recommends the inclusion of URLs, but a...

Re: Handling of URLs in bibliography

In some cases, the URL comes at the end of a line and is splint into two parts. This […] has the side-effect that the URL is broken. I personally prefer to have the URL on an own separate line. That prevents it from breaking, to me it looks more appealing and it sets it clearly off visually from ot...

Re: Finalizing a document - how to deal with citations?

everything looks excellent, except for a few minor details with my citations that I would like to clean up manually If the Bookends format you use is correctly formatted, you shouldn't need to clean up the output manually. in some places I mention the name of the author to whom I am referring in th...

Re: Auto Title maintains paragraph attributes after Return

markjulie wrote: Fri Oct 19, 2018 5:13 pm What small point am I overlooking in my formatting of styles?
It's the LineBreak. Remove Tab LineBreak from the Auto Title, and the next line will then revert to Body paragraph.
I don't understand why you are putting Tab LineBreak into the Auto Title. What's the purpose of that?

Re: Suppressing page number on second page

I wonder is there any way to suppress page numbers on the second as well as the first page of a section? Well yes, if you remove the footer in the Page palette –> Attributes. But you need to enter a Page style break after the second page in order to get a new footer for the remaining pages. You cou...

Re: Page break and section break for new chapter

now I have the problem that my page numbers also start from 1 again for each chapter! Try the options in the Page palette . If that solves the problem, safe the settings as a new Page style for future use. If you revert to what you did first ("I have selected "Section break" in the &...

Re: Glossary

I would like have access to this glossary, by hyperlinks. I can’t see how it is possible to do that with Mellel. Moreover, if that was possible, it would be very convenient that the reader could return to the text at this point of departure : how can I do that? It seems you're talking about a book ...

Re: Block quotes

Did block quotes disappear from the paragraph style menu? The paragraph style menu is not static. Which paragraph styles appear in the menu depends on the document you are in, or perhaps more specifically, the template on which the document is based. For example, if you add some special paragraph s...

…which is wrong. You must insert "Page style break" instead.
Then set the numbering of your note stream to "Restart every section".

Re: Endnotes to Footnotes and Vice Versa

Nisus Writer Pro has a Macro that can handle this called "Convert Notes to Text," This macro is not intended for this kind of job. Nisus Writer Pro has a built-in feature to change all endnotes to footnotes, and vice versa. This is how it's done: 1. Place the insertion point in an endnote...

Is there an easy way to change all endnotes to footnotes, or vice versa This can be done quite easily in Mellel. 1. Choose "Note" –> "Edit Note attributes" from the Insert menu 2. Select the Note Stream, which in this case is probably 'Endnote', given that you entered endnotes i...
