Re: Indexing based on a word-list

Inventing the means to extract ASCII versions of Mellel documents is a short afternoon, even if you start from scratch. And exporting the document directly from within Mellel as Plain Text takes even less time. :–) Why choose a thorny, long-winding serpentine country lane when the broad and comfort...

Re: Indexing based on a word-list

Almost forgot - the quirks in the brand X word processor. In that non-Mellel product, I have a document with one character style and two paragraph styes. Paragraph one is based on the character style. Paragraph two is based on paragraph one with font attribute changes. The mixing of character and pa...

Re: Indexing based on a word-list

Hey, Icelander, I used BBEdit for most of my document explorations. Mellel documents, like Word docx, are zip files. The simple document construction is one of the things I like about Mellel. Inventing the means to extract ASCII versions of Mellel documents is a short afternoon, even if you start fr...

Re: Indexing based on a word-list

Going a little rogue here, and recognizing this isn't a solution for either the faint of heart or the even borderline sane, I see the index terms are specified in tags named index-record in the Mellel xml internals. I don't think it would be hard to extract the list from a Mellel file or import new ...

Re: Resizing vs. cropping, what happened?

Timely advice - I had a picture that needed cropping for a letter I'm writing to some icky tax appraisers. Normally, I do my cropping and other tuning in Affinity Photo. The float in frame gambit was quicker. I was unsure at first how to scale the image to get the part I wanted to just fill the fram...

Re: Too bad, I was getting in love!

Icelander, you've called me out! I'm not a Dead scholar, although an old riding buddy was. As for Dead songs, Friend of the Devil, Uncle John's Band, and of course Truckin' are good for the soul. Probably my favorite is Touch of Grey. There's a relaxed stoicism in the lyrics. "Every silver lini...

Re: Too bad, I was getting in love!

I remember getting mildly frustrated with certain features in Mellel. Every time, once I learned the reasoning and the mechanism behind the feature, I found that if I didn't think the approach was brilliant it was at least flexible and without side effect. That's probably what people mean when they ...

Re: Too bad, I was getting in love!

Ok, I figured it out. In the list style setup, the character style is the font, color, and size of the bullet. The text continues in the paragraph and character style in effect when the list feature is turned on. I was also wrong about the indent for lists being absolute to the page. They are relati...

Re: Too bad, I was getting in love!

Perhaps the problem is applying a list style and having the left margin shift. I confess that was not what I expected, then I realized the list style's margins are absolute on the page, not relative to the enclosing paragraph style. All's well now that my list style indents agree with my body paragr...

Re: Exporting document with English and Hebrew to Word

The images don't appear for me. I've done some experiments with mixing left-to-right and right-to-left paragraphs, but I don't think I'm doing what you are.

Right-to-left is not a mainstream use for me, so I'm probably missing the obvious.

Good luck!

A duplicate post? You could've fooled me.

I thought it was a single comment.

Really, when writing long documents, this is essential.

Edit.

Oops. I’ve already commented but forgot I did it. :P

Sounds like dark mode is on the way in 5.2.

Always nice to see a new version of Mellel on the way.

Re: Features I'd like to see in Mellel

The epub export isn't a bad bug. I don't have my notes with me right now. As I recall, it's how the graphics files are named in the epub manifest. Every once in a while I think it would be cool to be able to copy a ruler. However, that's a non-styled way to get the job done. Better to set up a parag...

Re: TOC setup margins and indent

The TOC uses whatever paragraph styles you want from the document. The same styles available when you're editing the document are available when setting up an auto-title. One thing I've found that can cause grief is if you have more tab characters in an auto-title than you have tab stops in the auto...

Re: TOC setup margins and indent

Well, crud. I wasn't logged in when I replied. If this is a duplicate, apologies. Each auto-title has its own ruler with tabs and margins independent of all other auto-titles, and independent of the document. If the margins or tabs are wrong when you insert a TOC, the best fix is to delete the TOC, ...
