About 8 years ago, when I made the leap from Windows to Mac OS X 10.1, it took me a full 45 days to feel "in control" of my new OS and ready to abandon Windows completely. After one week with Mellel, I have already reached that point.

When I save as RTF in Word 2008 and try to import into Mellel, footnotes appear correctly, but numbered in the wrong way (ie. starting from 1 at every page). Have you checked in Mellel's "note attributes"? You may have "Numbering: Restart every page" instead of "Numbering: ...
