Re: Order of items in Table of Contents

Regrettably, that's not the problem. I had the "List as separate section in TOC" enabled. This causes all figures in the main text to appear together (rather than intermingled with text sections), but all appendix figures appear together later. The problem, I believe, is that my auto-title set-up fo...

Order of items in Table of Contents

My table of contents is coming out in the order dictated, apparently, by my auto-title setup. The TOC generated automatically looks odd-- with the appendix figures and tables being listed at the end. Is there place to specify that, instead, all figures should come out together, and that all tables s...

Re: Accepting Changes Incrementally

Being able to accept changes in a selected passage would be very helpful. Re-reading and checking a marked-up passage can be very difficult because of the combination of strikeouts, additions, and difficult-to-see changes (e.g., deletion of spaces). Here is a work-around. It's probably been obvious ...

Re: ALLCAPS character attribute does not export to .rtf

I just checked with a new manuscript and export to .docx works really well if you -- export from Mellel to pdf -- uses the Adobe pdf to Word service, which--except for a trial period--requires a small yearly fee Examples: 1. Front matter is numbered correctly as i, ii, .... 2. Main text is numbered ...

Nice-to-Have Table Issues

Mellel's still-fairly-new table features are very nice and I have been using them intensively in a new manuscript. This includes styles, templates, alternating rows, and repeat header. I am trying to collect suggestions for tweaks as I go along. I'm sure others have ideas as well. My current list is...

Style of new rows or columns of table

Is there a trick to use so that, when adding rows or columns to a pre-existing table, they will come in styled in the same way as others?

Re: Feature request: split view

Yes, I have long hoped for this feature. I have no idea whether it's a little or small ask. I sometimes use a flawed workaround. Starting with File 3.20, I save-as to a new version File 3.20b. I edit that one, while having File 3.20 open so that I can have an approximate split-screen functionality. ...

Re: Another table layout question

I have page styles for front matter (page numbers i, ii, ..), main text (page numbers 1, 2...), and main-text horizontal. If at a point in the main text I want to have a horizontal figure or table, I insert a page-style break, go to the new page, do a couple of carriage returns, and insert another p...

Re: Facing a new decade

Responding to Sani, 1. Footnotes. This is controllable in Edit Note Attributes (a selection under Insert Notes). 2. Captions. I have auto titles for figure and table captions. They work well. I probably am misunderstanding what you mean by captions. 3. Styles. Yes, this is a problem. 4. Tables. Yes,...

Re: footnotes in files exported to rtf

If for some reason, one is labeling footnotes with *, dagger, etc., rather than numbers, then restarting each page is preferable. A rationale for that is when footnotes are used only for, e.g., definitions, while endnotes are used for all other kinds of notes (citations, elaborations, etc.).

Re: How do Mellel users take notes?

When writing a paper or book in Mellel, I create a separate note stream called "Author notes" in red font. These notes may be reminders, discussion of subtleties, and even "tricks" used for figures, formats, exports, Word compatibility, etc. I delete such notes as the manuscript matures, although so...

Fixes in Export to Word

A number of users have urged achieving "good" export to Word as a priority. I agree. That might be a herculean task, but my guess is that fixing a finite set of problems would go a very long way. It might be useful to Eyal et al if we collect known problems. Here is my list. I have not established t...
