Table Notes
Mellel doesn't advertise the ability to have table notes, but it is sometimes possible. Define a note stream, Table Notes. Specify that the notes appear "After text." Specify that renumbering starts with each new section Then, when inserting a new table in which one wants to have table not...

Re: Tables in Mellel 4.2
Many commands (e.g., merge) are now reachable via the little gear icon at the bottom left of the table palette. As for applying styles or templates, you have to create them. Then, when you add a new table (Insert/Table), you will see options in the popup interface. It works very neatly. The user gui...

Keeping figure and table auto-titles above
Sometimes, a figure heading or a table heading (tag flows) will jump to be below the figure or table, rather than remain above it, as intended. What is causing this and how do I prevent it? This often happens if I delete what appears to be an extraneous carriage return between, say, the graphic and ...

Re: Round trip editing equations with MathType
I agree, but the workaround is easy: (1) set the Cut and Copy preference in MathType to pdf (check a box at the bottom) and (2) copy and paste from MathType to Mellel. You can discard the MathType file because the equation can always be edited by copying it back from Mellel to MathType. If you paste...

Index Building
I'm only beginning to use the nice index feature, beyond some initial experimentation when it was first introduced. I am musing about things I don't know how to do, or are not currently possible. Automatic Marking. We can select an index record, switch to the text pane, and use Find to find all inst...

Re: Numbering Figures
Note the box that says "Reset numbering with higher level flow." What's confusing is that if the first three items in your flow are Heading 1 Heading 2 Figure , where Figure is a tag flow, then Figure is "at" the second level and will start renumbering only when the "higher ...

Endnote by Chapter
Is there a trick for collecting endnotes at the end of each chapter? Perhaps using a page-style break?

Re: Numbering Figures
I use Heading 1 for unnumbered heading because items like Preface then show up in the Outline. As in the linked file I provided, I sometimes use auto-titling for sections of the summary and for appendices. I agree that that complexity is often unnecessary.

Re: Numbering Figures
Perhaps my instructions were not quite right. If so, sorry. I have put a skeletal make-believe document at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/aspi5ln5b3vep4i/AACUTq4ArkIi2USaa5ZGkdQya?dl=0 You have to download the mellel file and then open it. You will see that the figures renumbers by chapter. You can then...

Re: Numbering Figures
Suppose that your title flow already is Heading 1 Heading 2 Figure Heading 3 Other stuff Where Heading 1 is for unnumbered headings, Header 2 is for chapter titles, and Headomg 3 is for chapter-section title. The Figure item should be a tag flow, obtained by clicking the "Add" button and r...

Re: Updated advice on equations and equation numbering
Having now written a lengthy document using equations, I have two amendments to what I wrote earlier: 1. To get the equation number to be on the same line as the equation pasted in from, e.g., MathType, it may be necessary to adjust the character style for equation number so as to move the baseline ...

Character Style and TOCs
Is it only me? Over the years, I've had trouble generating correct TOCs because some of the headings come out bold when I want them not to be. If no one else has had these problems, then I am resigned to my dullard's shame. However, the interface seems confusing. Whether dealing with a selection of ...

Re: Formatting Autotitle Elements
Hi, I had in mind auto titles, not tags. Your note, however, caused me to disentangle setting each element's Numbering Unit (e.g., arabic or Latin) and setting "style" paragraph or character style. This morning, I experimented again and had better luck setting the styles of elements separa...

Formatting Autotitle Elements
I have a hard time formatting auto titles and must be doing something wrong, probably very elementary. I thought that the idea was to select a given element of an autotitle definition and double-click the relevant paragraph format in the paragraph palette. However, I frequently am unable to get this...
