Vertical-Line Length in Table
If I increase the line width for a particular edge of a table column--e.g., to separate inputs from outputs or to put things in groups, the line representing that edge extends beyond the normal top and bottom edges of the table (unless those edges are also thickened). That looks a bit ugly. I also d...

Re: Format in Table of Contents
If I click on one of the Toc-3 items in the table of contents itself, yes, the word is indicated as "Character; Normal (Bold)" at the top. But I have no idea how it got set to be bold. The Toc 3 "associated character style" is Normal. The Normal character style is Base. The Face ...

Format in Table of Contents
I have a new style set and auto-title setup that seems to be working fine EXCEPT that some items in the table of contents have bold titles. For the life of me, I can't see where they are being set to bold. According to the top pane, the paragraph in the TOC is in Toc 3 style and the Character is in ...

Re: Mellel Tutorial for beginners (for version 2.7)
Don, I just re-downloaded a few moments ago. However, there are tens of figures throughout that show up as gray rectangles with a question mark in the top left corner. Two examples are on page 91 ((e.g., Figure 165). The file says Modified Sunday, September 6, 2009. The link says September 15. http:...

Re: Positioning auto-titles under images surrounded by text
This morning I realize that Pages isn't necessary. A simple experiment: 1. Write a lengthy paragraph of text. 2. In a subsequent line, insert an image. Reduce its size by pushing on a corner. 3. Move the image into the midst of the paragraph. 4. Click on the image and set the Object palette for inli...

Re: No "Edit style sets…" under Snow Leopard
Casey, I believe that you have encountered the same problem that I reported under "Missing Style Sets." Two observations: 1. If you have an old document with one of the old styles, you can open that document, go to Edit styles, create a new style that clones the document's style, and give ...

Re: Positioning auto-titles under images surrounded by text
Hmm. The following also works. 1. Enter the autotitle for a figure, including its name, e.g. Figure 1 Name of Figure 2. Go into Pages, insert an image. 3. Past image into Mellel. Make it smaller by pushing in toward the center from a corner. At this point you will have the title centered and the ima...

Re: Mellel Tutorial for beginners (for version 2.7)
Don, do you have an estimate of when this will happen? I am about to set aside some time to do a complete read-through for the first time in quite awhile; I could do it with the pdf, but if the Mellel version is fairly imminent, I'll hang on.
The tutorial is a great service.

Nope, I had just mistyped in the email. The folder was where it should have been. I ended up reinstalling and everything now works again.

Re: Editing a citation, after doc is scanned
I guess I'm dull because I still haven't cracked the code. I can bring up the edit-citation pane about 20% of the time by double-clicking on the scanned citation (that is, on about one of five citations that I try to edit). To me, this apparent inconsistency is an implementation bug (unless one is s...

Re: Making a table and its caption float
Me too (I regard having the captions tied to the images as very important, since I almost never have images by themselves. The word "float" worries me a bit, however, because I prefer having images (and attached captions) in-line, not in a hovering cloud.

Missing Style Sets
I have recently gotten back to using Mellel heavily and noticed that my old style sets are missing. I thought this might have to do with losing them during the beta testing or in the previous upgrade, so I dug some out of my backup disk. I inserted them in the Style Set folder. I even restarted the ...

Re: Track Changes, what will you do?
I was a bit shocked by Timotheus' comments. Over the decades I have used any number of methods for commenting, reviewing, etc. I still use several techniques, including the bracketed changes or marking suggestions in red. The advantages of track-changes methods, however, are huge and have nothing to...

Re: Positioning auto-titles under images surrounded by text
Fooie. I also wanted to be able to attach the auto-numbered label, such as "Figure 1." In fact, not all figures merit being labeled and small figures with wraparound text are often of this type. Nonetheless...So, I also await the additional feature.
Re: spotlight
I agree that the Redlers people usually are very good at responding to queries. Since they know Spotlight works with Mellel (and I use it with Mellel routinely), they may not know what to say. Spotlight is much better with Leopard than earlier OS X versions. Still, many people have selective problem...
