Re: Lower case umlaut?

Well, I didn't know about these (or had long since forgotten). Both methods worked for me. Thanks much.

In retrospect, with the benefit of ozean's and januss's suggestions, I was also able to find full instructions from Apple's Help under "Accent."

Lower case umlaut?

How do I insert a lower case o with an umlaut? Insert/Special Characters/Accent works for a capital O with umlaut, but lower case? It's probably obvious, but...

Re: Wishlist 2008

To be more precise about wishes for communicating with Word, I would include a very high priority on being able to import and export preserving style and style names. It would seem to me possible to have an interface in which one specifies all of the Mellel styles on the left (those used in the docu...

Misbehaving Fonts

Problem solved; Mellel, as usual, is innocent. Apple's Help has an item noting that the User fonts may appear as "Off," and that efforts to turn them on may not work. The item says that this occurs after something like a reinstallation (although I did not do one), and that the solution is ...

Fonts in Mellel 2.2.7.1 (build b1)??

When I opened Mellel today, the fonts were wrong in an existing document. I ordinarily use Bookman Old as my basic font, but it seems somehow to be unavailable to Mellel. The font appears in my user Library. It IS available for use in Word. However, when I use Font Book (the built-in Mac appliction)...

Landscape graphic in Portrait Document

Don I can't make it work. I create a landscape graphic in OmniGraffle. I export it to vector pdf. I open a new Mellel file and set page setup to landscape. I insert the image. I can now print to a pd file, which I assume is what you meant. However, when I now move this into a blank page of the main ...

Mart'n I will try the drag and drop. I just tested again and was unable to get either Pages or Mellel to show the trouble in about ten tries. As I said, it has been difficult to reproduce the problem on demand. Ori said, in response to my help request, that the log reveals that "There is a prob...

Crashes Upon Insertion of Figures

I have had recurrent problems, for perhaps a year or so (several updates worth or Mellel),when seeking to insert images. The usual scenario is that I am typing away, select an autotitle for Figure, select Inset Image, navigate to a folder somewhere, and select a figure--usually in png format. Mellel...

It may be a feature rather than a bug, but it is one of the few things I find annoying about Mellel. One can save a document that has everything the way one wants it as a template (i.e., the right styles and autotitles), but that is to me a work-around for what amounts to a design "flaw."

Mixing streams

Personally, I use footnotes (*, etc.) at the bottom of pages for items that the reader should see at the time, and endnotes (1, 2,...) for nonessential comments and notes that include citations not given in the text itself. I believe that intermixing streams is not very aesthetic or helpful, but the...

Re: Translating into a Standard Word Template for Final Publ

I've read a fair number of forum entries on related matters, but I'm still ho I had thought that some tricks might work, but if so I haven't found them. For example, perhaps Word's find and replace would find all titles that should be H1's in the Word template, as judged from font name and font siz...

Just to close this out, the Word file had become corrupted. Problem solved, although had to uninstall and reinstall Word. Thanks for the tip.

Translating into a Standard Word Template for Final Publishi

I've read a fair number of forum entries on related matters, but I'm still hoping that someone has found the optimal way procedurally to deal with the following: Given: a nicely formatted Mellel document, with styles, autotitles, etc. Used for both writing and circulation of pdf drafts. Wanted: to m...

Footnotes and Word

Nicka
I just tried a completely new short file and did the experiment. I also was unable to reproduce the problem. The transition to Word via rtf seemed to work fine. Thus, I will explore the corruption possibilities. Thanks for the hint and the link.

Footnote Numbering in Word after RTF Export

I wrote a manuscript in Mellel, but at the last phase had to turn it into a Word document for processing by publications in standard company format. Things looked pretty good but now there is a serious glitch. In editing, I removed a few footnotes, but Word now skips those footnote numbers. That is,...
