Nice-to-Have Table Issues

Mellel's still-fairly-new table features are very nice and I have been using them intensively in a new manuscript. This includes styles, templates, alternating rows, and repeat header. I am trying to collect suggestions for tweaks as I go along. I'm sure others have ideas as well. My current list is...

Style of new rows or columns of table

Is there a trick to use so that, when adding rows or columns to a pre-existing table, they will come in styled in the same way as others?

Re: Feature request: split view

Yes, I have long hoped for this feature. I have no idea whether it's a little or small ask. I sometimes use a flawed workaround. Starting with File 3.20, I save-as to a new version File 3.20b. I edit that one, while having File 3.20 open so that I can have an approximate split-screen functionality. ...

Re: Another table layout question

I have page styles for front matter (page numbers i, ii, ..), main text (page numbers 1, 2...), and main-text horizontal. If at a point in the main text I want to have a horizontal figure or table, I insert a page-style break, go to the new page, do a couple of carriage returns, and insert another p...

Re: Facing a new decade

Responding to Sani, 1. Footnotes. This is controllable in Edit Note Attributes (a selection under Insert Notes). 2. Captions. I have auto titles for figure and table captions. They work well. I probably am misunderstanding what you mean by captions. 3. Styles. Yes, this is a problem. 4. Tables. Yes,...

Re: footnotes in files exported to rtf

If for some reason, one is labeling footnotes with *, dagger, etc., rather than numbers, then restarting each page is preferable. A rationale for that is when footnotes are used only for, e.g., definitions, while endnotes are used for all other kinds of notes (citations, elaborations, etc.).

Re: How do Mellel users take notes?

When writing a paper or book in Mellel, I create a separate note stream called "Author notes" in red font. These notes may be reminders, discussion of subtleties, and even "tricks" used for figures, formats, exports, Word compatibility, etc. I delete such notes as the manuscript ...

Fixes in Export to Word

A number of users have urged achieving "good" export to Word as a priority. I agree. That might be a herculean task, but my guess is that fixing a finite set of problems would go a very long way. It might be useful to Eyal et al if we collect known problems. Here is my list. I have not est...

Re: Copy Citation (Bookends)

Thanks. You're right about Live Bibliography. Yes, I've rebuilt the Bookends library and are using the same apps and versions on both machines. All the several ways of invoking Copy Citation have the same results The new-account experiment yields nothing now, but I will try it again next time the pr...

Copy Citation (Bookends)

As a public-service announcement, sort of, let me describe a problem I've had and a very clunky "solution." Perhaps this will help others and perhaps someone will tell us how to deal with it better. Problem: on my iMac, but not my MacBook Pro, both using Mojave, Copy Citation often doesn't...

Publishing in New ACM Format

The ACM has revised its formats within the last year or is still in the process of doing so. Do other Mellel users have any experience with this? Is there a new Mellel template for ACM?

Update on Export to Word

A chronic problem for Mellel users is exporting to Microsoft Word. Various earlier posts have addressed the issue over the years. The export from Mellel to rtf still has a number of problems, which carry through to a Word document. Currently, I find that my best option is to export from Mellel to pd...
