How do I insert a lower case o with an umlaut? Insert/Special Characters/Accent works for a capital O with umlaut, but lower case? It's probably obvious, but...

How do I insert a lower case o with an umlaut?

On the Keyboard I'm using the umlaut appears over the u key when cntl is pressed.
-- To get small o-umlaut, I type cntl-u then (releasing the cntrl key) o.
-- To get capital o-umlaut, I type cntl-u then (releasing the cntrl key) shift-o.

In my case you get the umlaut points by clicking option U (the option key is sometimes also labelled as alt). Otherwise the procedure is the same as with januss…

Well, I didn't know about these (or had long since forgotten). Both methods worked for me. Thanks much.

In retrospect, with the benefit of ozean's and januss's suggestions, I was also able to find full instructions from Apple's Help under "Accent."
