Geeza Pro font

Post by Ori Redler »

Hi to all,

It is possible that some of you, writing in Arabic, may have encountered a problem with Arabic under Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.x).
The problem, in short, is that the Geeza Pro font that comes with Snow Leopard is faulty and causes ligatures to appear as "boxes." This is especially annoying when you try to write in Arabic in the Find and Replace dialogue.

There are two solutions to this:
A. Remove Geeza Pro altogether: You can find it here:
/System/Library/Fonts/Geeza Pro\ Bold.ttf
/System/Library/Fonts/Geeza Pro.ttf

OS X may ask you to enter your Administrator password.

Another solution is to remove Geeza Pro and replace it with the version used with earlier OS versions (e.g., Leopard). You can remove and then install the older version, or simply install over the older version. In both cases OS X may ask you to enter your Administrator password.

Hope this helps those in trouble,

Ori

To add to that: a bug report was filed with Apple. Let's hope they fix the problem with the font soon.

I noticed there was just a "Snow Leopard Font Update". Installed it but I still have the same issues with Geeza Pro. Does anyone know if it was supposed to be fixed?

I think this update only fixed the OTF fonts.
