now, should it be that I'm no longer part of the beta testers' program? Did anyone else receive beta 2.8 by now? any info which features are being included?

My guess is that it's not ready yet. I also haven't heard, and I'm on the beta testing list, I believe.

Janice,
It's not a text background, but you can very easily create "Draft" behind the pages in Mellel by setting an image of the text in the page style, and then adjusting the transparency.

Could it be you are on the beta list with an out of use e-mail address? Spam filter maybe?
The release date of the beta was December 2nd, so I was referring to a real week and not a "long" week by the way …

Hah! Reading this I also thought the Redlers might have accidentally dropped me from the program – BUT gmail wrongly classified the beta invitation as spam. (Didn’t have false positives for a while, so I kind of stopped checking regularly.)
