I downloaded a trial of Nisus Writer Pro, willing to switch because its ability to:
- produce PDFs with links in TOC (including outline of the PDF)
- index
- insert text boxes that could include an image and caption and have text wrap around the box
- save natively to formats that users who do not have the program can read so I don't always have to export
- update table of contents rather than replace the whole thing
I decided to stay with Mellel because:
- Mellel auto-titling is more customisable
- I don't like having to leave the program to go to my reference manager. I am using Sente now, but Papers 2 can insert a reference without leaving.
- Nisus writer has to produce a new document when scanned and to unscan, I have to revert to the original document. For Papers 2, it requires to open and scan in Word. I suppose Bookends would solve this issue.
So, in the end, I am preferring a more smooth workflow to some functions that would be beneficial. I remain hopeful that they will be included in future updates to Mellel.
