Mellel video tutorial

Post by Eyal Redler »

Hi Everybody,

We've posted on you tube a first tutorial/demonstration of Mellel.
You can watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdhuLNrQ ... re=feedlik
This particular tutorial is aimed at beginners but we also hope to make more tutorials aimed at the more advanced users.

Let us know what you think and post requests to future tutorials (Pressing the "Like" button and sharing would also be welcome)

Yes, indeed - great initiative. (And it is neat to finally hear the voice of one of the creators of Mellel.) :) A bit of feedback:

* Maybe you could reduce the resolution of the monitor you use for recording the screencast (or you only record parts of the screen). If you then keep the video at the same size, text etc. would be more legible.

* It might be nice to reduce the time you talk about things that to not directly relate to the topic of the video tutorial (i.e. at the beginning of your screencast, when there is a long talk without any windows being shown.

* If you talk about features of Mellel (such as in your introduction, or about the website) then it would be nice if you would show these on the screen (i.e. open the website in Safari, move your cursor to the appropriate place of Mellel’s inteface etc.)

* I like the way that you actually explain features as you use them, and I think you could even improve on this (like when you zoom the document window size).

For the next tutorial, I would recommend to explain style and variations and if you talk about these to really make it clear that people should use these instead of ad-hoc formatting. Thanks!

Excellent video!
I would suggest too an introduction to styles and variations; You won't get far in grasping Mellel's true potential. if you don't use them.

All the old video tutorials should be posted. They are most helpful for beginners.

Eyal, I just saw the video tutorial for Mentions and ToCs http://www.redlers.com/supporttutorialm ... ndtoc.html, the resolution however is really, really tiny. Is that video also available in higher resolution?

Thanks!

Hi Eyal,

Great tutorial!

Thanks!

P.S, it will be very helpful if you add tutorial on bibliography and cross references.
