Download Speed

Post by Eyal Redler »

Hi all,

We would like to evaluate the speed of download from our various servers. If you're willing, please try to download all or some of the following files (they are all the same file - a disk image of Mellel 3.0.2 which you can happily discard later) from the following servers and report in this thread the time it took to download each of them.

Please make sure to tell us which link it was that you've tested and where in the world you are located.

link 1: http://www.connectnw.com/redlers/mellel302.dmg.zip
link 2: http://www.mellel.com/download/mellel/mellel302.dmg.zip
link 3: http://forum.redlers.com/mellel302.dmg.zip
link 4: http://s3.amazonaws.com/mellel.download ... 02.dmg.zip

We appreciate your help!

Eyal, here are my results:
  • Link 1 (www.connectnw.com (216.168.63.149) / Apache/2.2.6) – 1208kb/s average (29s)
  • Link 2 (www.mellel.com (216.168.63.225) / Apache/2.2.6) – 1240kb/s average (28s)
  • Link 3 (forum.redlers.com (208.70.160.143) / Apache) – 1671kb/s average (21s)
  • Link 4 (s3.amazonaws.com (207.171.189.80) / AmazonS3) – 1674kb/s average (21s)
These are the figures reported by curl. I downloaded each file in a terminal window with:

Code: Select all

curl -v -O <remote-file>
I am presently in Southern California, USA (about 30mi east from Los Angeles). I just ran a couple speed tests with these results:
  • Speedtest.net – 19.74Mb/s download (test server in Los Angeles with a 16s ping time)
  • SpeedOf.Me – 16.69Mb/s download (test server in San Jose with an unknown latency)
