3.3.1 does not keep preferences

Post by shades »

Since updating, when I open a new document the hidden margins and header/footer do not “take”; that is, with every document I have to reinstate those criteria. I have even tried to do that with a file then saved as template, and still those preferences do not stick.

Did you mark the template as default?

Yes. Went through that process twice to make sure.

What happens if you make some other setting to the default template, for example, try saving a default template with a yellow page colour, do new documents take the yellow colour?

Interesting, I changed the default to US Letter and yet when saved as template, it change it back to A4. I tried other things as well as background color.

Finally after the 4th attempt Saving as Default template it seems that the changes to the template actually stuck this time.

Glad that it is resolved, but puzzling.

So it seems that Mellel simply didn't use the template you assigned as the default.
I wonder if you tried to open the template via the browser and whether you saw the little red ribbon that indicates the default on the correct default at the time things were not functioning correctly.

I tried opening the template several different ways. Typically (I have been using Mellel since 1.2), if I made changes to the default template, and saved, then when I clicked “New” under file, a new document would open with all the just saved changes. That didn’t happen this time. I also opened the template by double clicking in the Finder, and that didn’t help.

But I just started Mellel this morning, and the new document was based on the default template, and all the changes were there. So it appears to work properly now.

If I understand correctly you choose "Save as template" and then clicked "Save Elsewhere" to save somewhere. Right?
If that's the case then Mellel will not use the template as the default. You need to save within the Mellel folders.

The only options to save, are “Old Templates” and the dropdown “Save elsewhere.”

You can leave it at "old templates" or click the popup menu and choose a different category (or create a new one). If you want Mellel to show you the template in the browser and allow you to make it the default, you must save inside one of the categories.

I had tried that both options and neither worked until this last time.
